Project Bloom

Project Bloom is a school-based initiative designed to educate students about autism, neurodiversity, and the importance of kindness, empathy, and inclusion. Through interactive lessons, activities, and discussions, the program encourages understanding and respect for the diverse ways people think, learn, and experience the world. By fostering awareness and acceptance, Project Bloom aims to create a more inclusive and supportive school environment for all students.
A Look Inside the Presentation
01
Introduction
To kick things off, we’ll warm up with some fun group chants — you might hear a cheerful “Koo-Hee!” or a confident “Oh yeah!” to get everyone energized and connected.
Then, our presenter will introduce themselves and give a brief overview of what Project Bloom is all about — including what we’ll learn, why it matters, and how we’ll grow together through kindness and understanding.
03
Slides which educate students about autism
In this part of the presentation, students will learn what autism is in a simple, respectful, and age-appropriate way.
We’ll explore:
-
How autism can affect the brain and body
-
Why every autistic person is unique
-
What autism might look like in children and adults — including how someone might communicate, learn, or experience the world differently
This part helps build understanding and encourages students to see differences as strengths.
05
Team building exercise
Next, we’ll take part in a fun team-building exercise called the Tower Challenge!
Teachers will have a pre-prepared list of student groups, thoughtfully created to ensure everyone feels included—especially those who may sometimes find it hard to connect with others.
Each group will work together to build the tallest tower possible using blocks.
The goal isn’t just height — it’s about communication, cooperation, and making sure everyone has a voice.
This activity helps students build trust, friendships, and inclusive team skills in a fun, hands-on way.
02
Viewing of Video
Next, we’ll watch the Project Bloom video, which features real stories from children, families, and a sibling.
They openly share their experiences with bullying, feeling misunderstood, and the impact of not being accepted for who they are.
These stories help us see the world through someone else’s eyes — and show why empathy, awareness, and inclusion truly matter.
04
Discussion around bullying and the impacts
Next, we’ll have an important discussion about bullying — what it is, why it happens, and how it can affect people, especially those who are neurodiverse.
We’ll talk about:
-
How bullying can deeply impact someone’s confidence, mental health, and sense of belonging
-
Why students who think, learn, or act differently are sometimes unfairly targeted
-
How we can all play a part in standing up, speaking out, and creating a safe, inclusive school for everyone
This conversation helps students recognize their power to make a positive difference.
06
End of presentation
As we reach the end of our session, we’ll take a moment to celebrate everyone's effort and teamwork.
-
The group that built the tallest tower will be crowned the winner of the Tower Challenge!
-
Then, we’ll open the floor for any questions students may have about autism, neurodiversity, inclusion, or anything we covered in the presentation.
This is a great chance for students to reflect, share thoughts, and continue growing their understanding of what it means to be kind, curious, and inclusive.
